This morning, E had her first visit to the dentist. She picked out a pretty dress and flower tights
that totally clashed to wear, brought along Silky and Baby, brushed her teeth and off we went. She did really well -- let the hygenist count, clean and floss her teeth, and let the dentist check her teeth as well. She was psyched for the Ariel toothbrush and other goodies she got, too.
I was psyched because she has two chipped teeth that the dentist assured me was no problem. They also assured me that I was fine in waiting until 3 1/2 to send her to the dentist (I have a friend who just took her 1 year old). Overall a good trip. I have *my* appoinment on Monday...so in 6 months we'll be doing ours together. Should be interesting.

Harrison went right before he turned 3 and actually liked the dentist...I was pleasantly surprised. He will occasionally ask if he can go again. (We are doing the big push to stop the thumb sucking right now).
Which dentist did you use? I suppose I should take Will soon!
We went to the dentist next to the sushi restaurant and tire place near Target. It's a regular dentist (John and I use them, too).
I felt a little guilty not sending her to the Pediatric Dentists near Tiny Dancers, because everyone *raves* about that place. But they weren't in our insurance so I thought I'd give ours a shot.
Anyhoo, they were really good with her. The hygenist had silly names for all of the tools (the spit sucker was "Mr. Thirsty") and told her what she was going to do before she did it. The dentist has a 4-year-old daughter so she was talking Dora and Princesses and Care Bears with her.
And, like I said...they said that between 3 and 4 is fine to take them for the first time!
That is where I go and Suzanne goes there as well and took Emma! My friend who works for a dentist said that the issue she has with pediatric dentists is that many do a lot more work on kids than is needed. Probably not true for all, but one friend was told her child had 3 cavities and needed a lot of additional work once those were filled. Went to a regular dentist- one possible cavity that ended up getting filled, and nothing else needed done.
I am dreading our first dental visit this summer. DD is petrified of going!
Hi! I'm Marathon Mom's friend...My kids (3yrs and 4 yrs old) love the dentist, too! They've been going since they were a year old, which was kind of overkill, but at least it gets them used to it...
My comment is about the chipped teeth...as my husband would say, "They'll fall out and get news ones, so it's ok." He's usually the one to brush the kids' teeth, so he also uses that excuse if he misses a night. I had to nip that one in the bud. ha ha.
