double your pleasure

Neither of my girls took pacifiers as babies. Well, E never took a pacifier...and since I never got used to offering one when A was crying or fussy, she didn't have much of a choice. But both girls have a security blanket or lovey.

E has Silky.E and SilkyI bought Silky at some fantastic sale at The Right Start, not knowing that this would turn into her most prized possession. If I had known this, I would have picked up two since that particular color and pattern was being discontinued...making Silky irreplacable. We've lived in constant fear of Silky being lost, so he is pretty much not allowed out of the house unless we are going somewhere overnight. We even made E bring a faux Silky to school with her, rather than risk her losing it or it disintegrate because of the increased washings.

When A came along, Grandmom and Grandad bought her Taggie.A and TaggieBeing so much smarter about this kind of thing, I immediately bought a second (identical) Taggie when she started to show attachment to it. Right now, we take one to daycare and leave the other at home.

Occasionally, A will come into possession of both Taggies at once. A *loves* it when this happens. She runs around with one in each hand (or both hanging out of her mouth). She's as happy as can be. I'm happy because I don't think I have to keep up a charade of there being one true Taggie and hide from her the stand-in versions, as I know some moms do.

The only down-side of Taggie is that other kids have Taggies. And A doesn't realize that every pink Taggie isn't hers. When E's friend, Madelyn, was over, she brought her Taggie. A kept grabbing at it and was visibly agitated. As soon as I retreived hers, she was fine...but it was touch and go there for a while.

G loves his Taggie. I actually can get out of his room when he is in his crib without him even noticing because he is so entranced. I have heard about getting two loveys so you don't have the horrific moment of no lovey. I need to write that down so I won't forget!

I HIGHLY recommend the two lovey approach. Actually Jake has three. Two are the same and 1 is slightly different. He names for all three. And as my sister can attest, even if preschool and daycare are not a concern, when the stomach bug hits, you'll be rotating them in and out of the washer all day long.

I was remembering when E had a whole crib full of blankets with creative names like "red". Reminds me of Molly and her "bunny bun bun".

Jenn...E suffers from the same lack of creativity in naming things as her daddy and I do. Silky and Taggie are the lovey's actual brand names, which is how we came up with them. But the baby doll that Santa got her for Christmas? Baby. She has two other baby dolls named Big Baby and Little Baby.
